• The source code is in ~/Fortran/WERA_scan.F
• Compilation with ~/Fortran/do_X11R6_wera_scan.sh generates the executable ~/Fortran/WERA_scan
• ~/Fortran/WERA_scan is called by ~/etc/Process_SCAN.sh .

WERA_scan is used to calculate the optimum working frequency from a frequency scan. If requested from WeraDesk, in can process two frequency ranges and search for the absolute minimum of Radio Frequency Interference, which is found inside one of the two ranges. The inplemented functions are as follows:

• Read the scan data file yyyydddhhmm_cod.RAW. The data format is identical to the standard .RAW measurements, except some special entries in the header.
• Calculate the average power vs. frequency from all antennas and scans.
• To increase the weigth of the strong radio sources within the scan, power**ALPHA is calculated with ALPHA = 2.0 (ALPHA can be considered as a contrast factor).
• The radar operating frequency with the lowest average SUM(power**ALPHA) for the given bandwidth is calculated.
• If the average SUM(power**ALPHA) of the next lower bandwith is by a factor of GAMMA = 1.5 lower than the calculated average SUM(power**ALPHA) of the actual bandwidth, the next lower bandwith is selected. This step is repeated 2 times (GAMMA is a value to express preference to the higher bandwidth). The lowest possible bandwidth is 50 kHz.
• The extended header /home/wera/weractrl/ctrl_data.cpy is modified to reflect the new radar center frequency and bandwidth (to be used for the next measurement cycle).
• An image of the frequency scan and the selected radar center frequency and bandwidth is written to /home/wera/public_html/WERA_scan.gif
